6/13/19

Envision Healthcare today announced the appointment of Douglas J. “Doug” Smith, M.D., FACEP, as President of Envision Physician Services. As the first physician to hold the title, Dr. Smith will play a pivotal role in helping the company define the future of physician-led, customer-centric care delivery.

“This is a strategic step forward in the evolution of our organization and differentiating how we engage with physicians and clinicians at this pivotal time of transformation for our country’s healthcare system and for our company,” said Christopher A. Holden, President and Chief Executive Officer of Envision Healthcare.

Dr. Smith’s business acumen along with experience as a practicing physician and distinguished member of Envision’s physician leadership team make him uniquely suited for the job. Since 2017, Dr. Smith has served as leader of the company’s emergency medicine, hospitalist and critical care service lines. He first joined Envision Healthcare in 2015 as a member of Scottsdale Emergency Associates.

“The practice of medicine and the patient-physician relationship have grown remarkably complex, and Envision is perfectly positioned to evolve with the complexity to better serve our physicians, our health system customers and patients,” Dr. Smith said. “We know that demands the right balance of physician leadership and a first-class support system, and I am both honored and excited to deliver against the opportunity that is ahead for us.”

Dr. Smith completed medical school and his emergency medicine training at the University of Arizona and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
