John Quick, partner at Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman, has been appointed to serve as a member of the Miami-Dade County 2020 Census Task Force. The Task Force was created by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners. Its purpose is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of individuals likely to be undercounted and to recommend an action plan to remedy the gap.

Quick, who focuses his practice on business, real estate and government litigation, is committed to numerous civic organizations, taking leadership positions dedicated to improving the Miami-Dade community. He was recently elected President of the Miami-Dade Parks Foundation.

In addition, Quick serves as the Chair of the Miami-Dade Community Relations Board, is a Past Chair of the 11th Judicial Circuit Historical Society and is a longtime board member and Past President of the Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library System. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his commitment to the community.

According to Quick, accurate reporting of the census data is crucial, and under reporting can have a dramatic impact. He cited that based on data from the federal government’s FY 2015 budget, for every 1 percent of undercount in the 2010 Census Florida experienced more than $177 million in lost federal funds. Quick further states that an undercount results in a loss of representation of elected officials in Washington D.C. The ultimate goal is to assist in powerful outreach campaigns to assure a complete and thorough count for Miami-Dade County in the 2020 U.S. Census.

Quick earned his B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is admitted to The Florida Bar, the U.S. District Courts for the Middle, Southern and Northern Districts of Florida and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 1st, 5th, 9th and 11th Circuits.
