Skanska USA, one of the world’s leading construction and development firms, announced today the hiring of construction industry veteran Michael C. Brown to the role of executive vice president/general manager to lead its building operations in the state of Florida.

Brown brings over 30 years of experience in business development, project management and building strong client and civic relationships. In his role as general manager, Brown will lead strategic growth for Skanska’s building operations in the region and focus on driving excellence in areas of customer support, operational efficiency, and sustainability. As a proven strategic leader, Brown is also committed to ensuring the professional growth and success of the more than 700 employees located in projects all over the state and Skanska’s three offices in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Orlando. Brown will be based in Tampa.

Prior to joining Skanska, Brown worked for 19 years at Gilbane Building Company, serving most recently as senior vice president and southeast regional manager based in Atlanta, Georgia. During this time, he led the regional office that oversees the firm’s presence in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. In the first decade of his career, Brown gained experience working for companies such as Turner Construction and Barton Malow.

In addition to his leadership in the construction industry, Brown has been an active member of the community serving in industry and civic roles such as Plan Commission Chairman for the City of Naperville, Illinois, board member of Covenant House of Georgia, AFSP Georgia, and North Central College Advisory board. He’s also been a guest lecturer at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Brown earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is a registered professional engineer.
