Komen South Florida Executive Director Susan G. Komen Named Nonprofit Professional of the Year

10/16/17

Kate Watt

Kate Watt, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen South Florida, was named Nonprofit Professional of the Year at the inaugural “Hats Off Nonprofit Awards” hosted by Nonprofits First on October 3, 2017 at the Harriet Himmel Theatre in downtown West Palm Beach. A blue-ribbon panel of 28 community leaders from public and private sectors determined the winners. Watt was one of seven category honorees awarded from the 114 nominations received.

Having joined Komen just one month ago in September 2017, Watt was largely recognized for her achievements in her prior position as Chief Development Officer for the Urban League of Palm Beach County, a 44-year-old organization dedicated to assisting African Americans and other minorities in the achievement of social and economic equality. Over her ten years with the organization, Watt established the Urban League’s first Development Department and played an instrumental role in tripling the Urban League’s annual budget. With her assistance and efforts, the Urban League budget grew 238% during her tenure, with funds raised of over $15 million.

Watt also served as the Administrative Director for the Cultural Trust of the Palm Beaches and was responsible for creating a successful annual campaign, major gift donor portfolio and growing membership over 500% during her tenure. She began her career at the National Alliance for Youth Sports with the Hook a Kid On Golf program where she was instrumental in introducing thousands of minority youth across North America to the game of golf.

“To be recognized in a community where I’m surrounded by the top professionals in the nonprofit world is an enormous honor,” said Watt. “I’m grateful for all of the rewarding opportunities I have had to serve at a professional level and give back to my community, especially at the Urban League and now at Komen South Florida. I have truly received more than I’ve given.”
