Raymond James Appoints Geoffrey Richards as MD

9/28/17

Raymond James has hired Geoffrey Richards as a Managing Director in its Investment Banking division to head both the Private Capital Solutions Group and the Recapitalization & Restructuring Group. He will lead a team of professionals in New York City and Toronto and coordinate closely with the firm’s investment banking teams in Frankfurt, Munich and London. Raj Singh, who previously led the two groups, will remain actively involved at the firm and with the groups as a Vice Chairman.

The Private Capital Solutions Group raises private debt and structured equity. The Recapitalization & Restructuring Group provides a full range of strategic advice, both in and outside Chapter 11 and other jurisdictional equivalents. The groups work collaboratively across industry-specific teams to provide tailored solutions to clients looking to raise private capital and deliver strategic advice throughout the restructuring process.

“These two groups are a key strategic business unit with tremendous growth potential for the firm,” said Jim Bunn, head of Investment Banking at Raymond James. “Geoffrey brings superb credentials, including global expertise, and a strong track record of successfully building and growing practices that offer great potential to further strengthen and expand the scope of our client advice. He will do an exceptional job leading these two groups.”

Richards has dual capabilities in finance and law, with over 20 years of complex transaction and restructuring expertise, and a track record of building and growing these capabilities within other prominent firms. Most recently, he was head of North America Debt Finance and Restructuring for Canaccord Genuity, where he established the firm’s U.S. restructuring practice and merged its restructuring and debt finance units into a North America business unit. Previously, he was head of the Special Situations & Restructuring Group at William Blair & Company and a partner in the restructuring practice at Kirkland & Ellis. Since 2001, he has taught corporate restructuring as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.

“I am drawn to Raymond James for the rock-solid platform of investment banking capabilities and services, the existing team of top professionals and, above all, the firm‘s philosophy of applying the full continuum of industry and product expertise to its clients,” said Richards. “Raj has built two well-regarded practices. I am excited about the opportunity to expand on his success and, with the talented team already in place, further position Raymond James as a leading firm in both private capital solutions and restructuring.”
