Fort Lauderdale Country Club to Host The First Tee of Broward Starting September 28, 2017

9/27/17

Youth in Broward County will soon be able to make a difference in their lives through the game of golf! Beginning Thursday, September 28, 2017, the Fort Lauderdale Country Club will partner with The First Tee of Broward to provide learning facilities and educational programs to students in greater Fort Lauderdale.

The First Tee aims to help young people build character with Nine Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy and Judgement) as well as Nine Healthy Habits (Energy, Play, Safety, Vision, Mind, Family, Friends, School and Community) through the game of golf. This after-school program will teach one value and habit each week for a total of nine weeks.

“This is the first time this program has been brought to Fort Lauderdale Country Club,” said Angela Cohen, a Fort Lauderdale Country Club member and First Tee volunteer. “We are so excited to offer a golf program that teaches leadership skills to children in our community.”

The program has been expanded to also include veterans, children with learning disabilities and autism programs.

Founded in 1997, The First Tee has 180 chapters worldwide. Each chapter of The First Tee is an independent entity responsible for raising their own operational funds; it is reliant upon charitable contributions to facilitate and grow its programs. Fort Lauderdale Country Club’s head pro, Mark VanDyck, will be spearheading a charity tournament on December 9, 2017. The tournament, which will be hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Country Club, will raise money for The First Tee program.

“Hosting approximately 30 charity golf tournaments per year, we strive year-round to make a positive difference throughout the greater Fort Lauderdale community,” said Michael O’Brien, General Manager of the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. “Golf is a fun way to get children active and teach them important life skills. We are proud of our partnership with The First Tee and are confident that it will have a positive impact on our area youth.”
