MCM Employees Invited to Stay at Miami Headquarters During Hurricane Irma

9/27/17

Munilla Construction Management (MCM) – a construction company specializing in general building and heavy civil construction –  opened its corporate office in South Miami as a shelter for employees and their families who lived in evacuation areas during Hurricane Irma.

On Sept. 10, Hurricane Irma tore through South Florida, hitting South Miami especially hard and causing many areas to be under a mandatory evacuation. Located in an elevated building with strong walls, few windows, and situated between neighboring hospitals and fire departments, MCM provided not only safe space but a safe piece of mind to those who really needed it.

Many MCM employees are Miami natives and had experienced the devastation from Hurricane Andrew in 1992.  They are grateful to have MCM provide a place so their children did not have to witness the same fears.

“I was 12-years-old when Hurricane Andrew tore through Miami. We lost everything during that storm and the worst part was having to sit in a bathroom while the storm severely damaged our home with us inside,” said Rosalyn Lax, a Paralegal at MCM. “Knowing that Irma was coming I was nervous and knew I didn’t want my son to experience what I had so many years ago.”

MCM is family-owned and operated, consistently priding themselves on their support for one another both personally and professionally.

“We felt so safe during Hurricane Irma,” said Gredel Del Toro, MCM Project Executive. “All we could think was ‘WOW’ how lucky are we to have been given the opportunity to bring our families here.”

This is a nod to MCM’s uncompromising dedication to quality and safety for its partners and employees. MCM is also dedicated to giving back to the community through the Munilla Family Foundation, which funds social initiatives. After Hurricane Irma, MCM team members partnered with the United Way of Miami-Dade where they delivered food and cafecito to elderly at Robert King Towers.
