Students to Receive Free School Meals through the USDA’s National School Lunch Program

Available now through Friday, Oct. 20, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will serve free breakfast and lunch to all students. Following Hurricane Irma, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has granted a special waiver, allowing students access to free school meals through the National School Lunch Program.

“Knowing that many families across Broward County are dealing with the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma, BCPS, through the USDA waiver, is ensuring that all students have access to a healthy breakfast and lunch on school days through Oct. 20,” said Mary Mulder, Director of BCPS Food & Nutrition Services.

In the coming weeks, students can look forward to a variety of tasty and nutritious menu items for breakfast and lunch. Favorites such as Banana Pancakes, Hash Browns, Canadian Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant Sandwiches and Apple Cinnamon Rolls will appear on the breakfast menu. Students can also enjoy Turkey and Cheese Wraps, Cuban Sandwiches, Tacos and French Bread Pizza for lunch, along with the Asian Chicken Kale Salad, a personal favorite from celebrity chef and BCPS consultant Rudy Poindexter. Parents can also check online as menus are updated periodically:https://schools.mealviewer.com/results/broward%20county.
