Florida CCIM Chapter members are kicking off a relief campaign that delivers immediate assistance to their fellow commercial real estate professionals devastated and left without power by hurricanes in Puerto Rico.

“Operation PowerAide" was launched shortly after Hurricane Maria, the strongest hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in more than 80 years, left the entire island without electricity last week, making it difficult to assess just how much damage was caused by Maria's unrelenting onslaught.

Media sources report the September 20th storm has led to 30 deaths thus far, including 10 in Puerto Rico. The devastation created immediate need to support Puerto Rico's CCIM Chapter members by neighboring Florida CCIM Chapter.

"In Florida, we understand from personal experience how essential even small amounts of power can be during and especially after serious hurricanes?," commented 2017 Florida Chapter President Scott Lloyd CCIM, RPA. “Through our PowerAide campaign, we are sending a shipment of 27 high-capacity portable generators to the island for our CCIM members and their families,” he explained.

Additionally, aid packages will include fuel stabilizer and oil, chains and padlocks, and emergency flashlights and batteries, Lloyd said.

"Every dollar of every contribution will go directly to help pay for generators and other essentials for our members," he added.

Heading up the relief campaign with Lloyd is Chere Roane, Immediate Past President of the Florida Chapter, who also serves as Region 8 Vice President for the CCIM Institute.Region 8 includes Florida and its neighboring Caribbean Islands.

"Florida CCIM will help power up our Puerto Rican CCIMs with PowerAide," shared Roane. "Our eight districts are joining in the campaign and we urge members and friends to make a contribution via our GOFUNDME page at https://www.gofundme.com/relief-poweraide-for-puerto-rico,” she added.

The Chapter is working with airlines to coordinate delivery of the generators to San Juan on Thursday, Sept. 28th.The handful of members of Puerto Rico's Chapter that have been reached report widespread flooding, total power outage and many dire situations.
