Skanska Renovates East End of Las Olas Boulevard Corridor in Fort Lauderdale

7/11/17

Skanska, one of the world’s leading construction and development firms, will renovate and revitalize the Las Olas Boulevard beachfront corridor, considered the crown jewel of Fort Lauderdale Beach. The project will include adding a parking garage, new canopy, public spaces and interactive water features that will improve the pedestrian experience and help connect the city’s waterfront. These improvements will also further cement Fort Lauderdale as a beachfront destination for domestic and international visitors.

As a central part of the Las Olas Boulevard improvements project, Skanska will build a 258,000-square-foot parking garage with 670 spaces located adjacent to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Marina. Designed by architecture and urban design firm EDSA Inc., the facility will feature a high-end stainless steel and aluminum wrap with LED lights and a partial amenity deck that will offer spectacular views of downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.

The $49.3 million Las Olas Boulevard project will also feature a beachfront park, architecturally-designed landscaping that will provide more shade, and streetscape improvements along the boulevard. Construction began in June 2017, and the project is expected to be complete in August 2019.

“With this major renovation, Las Olas Boulevard will provide a more inviting experience for locals and visitors along the beachfront corridor,” said MacAdam Glinn, account manager and senior vice president of Skanska’s building operations in South Florida. “Our team will work closely with the city to deliver a project that increases the quality of life for the community while enhancing the city’s appeal as a world-class family destination and beachfront resort.”

Skanska, which has a regional office in Fort Lauderdale, is also building the $47 million expansion at Broward Health’s North Campus and the $32.7 million renovation at Salah Foundation Children's Hospital. The firm also recently delivered the state-of-the-art Philip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, featuring a planetarium and an aquarium in downtown Miami’s Museum Park.
