Mindy Szarowicz of Baker Concrete Construction will lead 500-member industry organization

The Construction Association of South Florida (CASF), the area’s first and longest-running construction industry organization, has elected Mindy Szarowicz of Baker Concrete Construction to serve as President of its Board of Directors. The announcement was made last night at the “67th Annual CASF Installation Banquet,” held at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale, at which several new board members and officers were installed. Ms. Szarowicz, who has served on CASF’s board for seven years, is the organization’s first female president.

Founded in 1950, CASF provides its 500-plus members, representing all facets of the construction industry, with education, advocacy and networking opportunities.

“We’re delighted to have someone with Mindy’s professional expertise, energy and vision leading CASF as President,” said Remy Mackowski, Executive Director of CASF. “Her longevity with CASF, and her understanding of the issues that impact the construction industry, make her a tremendous asset to our organization and its members.”

Ms. Szarowicz, a LEED-accredited professional with 10 years of experience in the South Florida construction industry, is the Director of Business Development for the South Florida office of Baker Concrete Construction, the largest concrete contractor in the U.S., with a headquarters office in Ohio. In addition to serving on CASF’s board, she sits on the board of the Construction Executives Association and on Urban Land Institute’s Florida Product Council for Hospitality and Recreational Development. Ms. Szarowicz was also named one of the Top 100 Outstanding Women of Broward County in 2017 by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.

This year, Ms. Szarowicz’s focus will be helping CASF members build meaningful relationships, and continuing to elevate CASF events and programs to increase the value of membership.

“Early in my career, I was fortunate to have a mentor who taught me that relationships lead to success, and CASF is a key to that process,” said Ms. Szarowicz. “CASF’s rich history is predicated on giving its members the best opportunity to build a trusted network in South Florida. It’s an honor and personal milestone to be named CASF president and to help carry that legacy into the future.”

The new CASF board members, elected to serve two-year terms, are:

Richard Schuerger, Project Executive, John Moriarty and Associates of Florida
(Sitting board member, re-elected)

Maribeth Sitowski, Business Development Specialist, Balfour Beatty Construction

Mark Butters, Vice President, Butters Construction & Development

Jessica Chen, Project Executive, Suffolk Construction

Alex Smith, Vice President, Moss and Associates

The CASF Executive Committee for 2017-2018 is: First Vice President Jeff Slade, of Miller Construction Company; Second Vice President Sid Miller, of Miller Glass & Glazing; and Secretary/Treasurer Doug Wallace, of Stiles Construction Company.

CASF board members serve two-year terms; the President serves a one-year term only.
