The Keyes Company’s Next Gen group successfully collected 5,195 pounds of food during its Move For Hunger tri-county food drive. In addition to what was collected, the group received a $200 donation from Miami Beach.
The Next Gen group, which consists of sales associates under the age of 40, partnered with Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and reducing food waste. Move for Hunger works with relocation companies and real estate professionals to collect nonperishable food items for food banks across the country.
Keyes’ 12 offices in Miami Dade collected 1,655 pounds of food, while Broward’s seven offices collected 1,260 pounds. The 10 offices in Palm Beach collected almost 1,300 pounds of food, 800 pounds were collected from the four Treasure coast offices, and the New Smyrna office collected 200 pounds of food. The success of the drive has prompted preparations for another drive in the fall.
In 2009, Adam Lowy founded Move for Hunger. His family has owned a moving company for more than 90 years, and after years of seeing so much food wasted when people move, Lowy decided to take action. To date, the organization has collected more than 7.6 million pounds of found, equating to 6.3 million meals for those in need.
“It’s great to see our Keyes Next Gen family come together for such a great cause,” said Keyes Sales Associate and Next Gen co-leader Jason Pappas, who spearheaded the campaign. “It was something that I was very passionate about. I’m proud of the hard work our team has put in to help make this year’s drive the success that it was.”
