Levitetz Family Foundation Earmarks $18,000 For JAFCO Children’s Ability Center Family Fun Days

3/23/17

JAFCO Executive Director Sarah Franco announced that the Levitetz Family Foundation has become an official sponsor of the 2017 Family Fun Days at the Children’s Ability Center.  Following its five-year capital gift commitment, the Foundation wanted to continue its relationship with JAFCO and came on board with an $18,000 grant earmarked for six different Family Fun Days.

“We are deeply grateful to the Levitetz Family Foundation for the continuous support and tremendous their generosity to JAFCO,” Franco said.  “Grants such as this are deeply meaningful and go a long way to bringing to growth and progress to the children at our Ability Center.”

JAFCO will host a holiday event, a Halloween party, a Valentine’s Day celebration and a back-to-school party where the Levitetz Family Foundation will be the sponsor.  Two other events are in the planning stages.

“JAFCO is an organization that is very near and dear to Alan Rutner, vice president of the Foundation and his entire family,” said Daniella Jordan, who manages the Foundation.   “They personally always volunteer, and this commitment is a natural extension of their tremendous respect and affection for the organization.  The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and their families is what drives this foundation.”

JAFCO is a nonprofit organization licensed by the state of Florida’s Department of Children and Family Services to serve abused and neglected children and those with developmentally disabilities in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The Children’s Ability Center opened its doors in 2014 to meet a vital unmet need in South Florida for family enrichment, support and respite care to families raising a child ages birth to 22 with any developmental disability. The center services hundreds of children a month, offering families a beautiful, clean and fun place where their children can be safe and feel like they belong.  Services include assessment, enhanced case management and referral, social skills and life skills training, after school and weekend clubs including music therapy, drama, organic gardening and social play, support groups for moms, dads, siblings and grandparents, parent training and education, summer camp (with a sleepover option) and family fun days. The Children’s Ability Center offers families respite care where children can spend a day, weekend or up to two weeks of overnight fun experiences – allowing parents to take a short break. The Ability Center is now a research institute in partnership with NSU who is studying the impact that these programs and services are having on the strength of the family unit.
