The Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale will host its 17th Annual Riverwalk Run on Saturday, April 1, at Huizenga Plaza in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The 5K Run/Walk and 5 Mile Run will begin at 8 a.m. and the Kids’ Fun Run will begin at 9:15 a.m. In celebration of the non-profit organization’s 80th anniversary in the community, participants are encouraged to dress up in 80’s attire and will receive a special edition T-shirt. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s current community projects, which include human trafficking awareness, transiting independent living for foster care adolescents, childhood fitness and nutrition, and the training of women volunteers.
The 17th Annual Riverwalk Run will lead more than 1,000 runners and walkers on a 5K and 5-mile course through the heart of Rio Vista. Starting at Huizenga Plaza located at 32 East Las Olas Boulevard, the USATF-certified course runs along the South Bank of the New River, wanders through the tree-lined neighborhood streets of Rio Vista, cuts through Smoker Park with views of the New River and historic Stranahan House, and finishes on the signature brick path of the Riverwalk. The event will also feature a Kids’ Fun Run, lined with parents and volunteers to guide kids along the course.
Post-race festivities will include a light brunch, kids’ activities, and prizes for the best 80’s dressed runner/walker, team and pet. Registration for the 5K and 5 Mile Run is $35 in advance and $45 on the day of the race. The Kids’ Fun Run is $10 in advance and $20 on race day.
