Summer at The Shops: Farmers Market, Family-friendly Events and New Art Installations Headline Calendar of Summer Programs at Sunset Place

6/17/16

The temperature isn’t the only thing heating up in South Miami this summer – the Shops at Sunset place is hosting a full lineup of events and activations geared toward children and families while school is out. Upcoming programs include a Sunday farmers market, an interactive art installation and new store openings.

“We’ve said all along that we are going to transform Sunset Place into South Miami’s living room, and there’s no better time than the present to begin,” says Vicki Baisden, General Manager of the Shops at Sunset Place. “Our weekly farmers market, new art features and upcoming events will give the community reason to visit and keep coming back for more this summer.”

Sunday Farmers Market: South Miami has a new spot to pick-up fresh food every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunset Place’s new farmers market, located at the Sunset Drive entry plaza, features dozens of local vendors and includes organic produce, baked goods, jams, jellies and more.

A Splash of Color: Sunset Place has commissioned University of Miami graduate art student Izia Lindsay to create a large-scale installation at the Sunset Drive entry plaza. Lindsay, a native of Trinidad, will work during the second half of June and into early July to convert a series of columns into a canvas for abstract landscapes of South Florida’s native wildlife.

Summer Recess: Families can escape the heat on June 25th from 2 to 5 p.m.for a day of music, shopping, games and arts & crafts sponsored by GameTime.

Back to School Send-Off: Sunset Place is hosting one last hurrah over tax-free weekend on August 6th from 1 to 4 p.m., giving shoppers the opportunity to save money on back-to-school necessities. The event will conclude Sunset Place’s Summer Music Series, and customers will enjoy special discounts and product sampling from merchants.

New Store Openings: Visitors can soon cool off with refreshments from Tea & Poets, a full-service tea bar that will feature live performances by local poets and musicians, and Nova Teas, an artisanal, family-owned company that imports and blends premium whole-leaf loose tea. Between drinks, shoppers can visit Modastyle, a swim- and resort-wear boutique for men, women and children, and then head over to Edgelook to finalize their ensemble with the latest fashions and unique accessories.

All events are free and open to the public, and Sunset Place’s parking promotion has been extended through the summer. Visitors will enjoy their first hour in the Sunset Place parking garage for free Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will receive a 50% discount off their first 2 hours on the weekends.

When families take a break from AMC, Splitsville, GameTime and Just4Fun, they can refuel at one of Sunset Place’s popular restaurants and cafes, including Johnny Rockets, Pasion del Cielo, Mellow Mushroom and Buffalo Wild Wings.
