The Hon. Bruce W. Solow, of Miami-based Sánchez-Roig & Solow, was a recent participant on the panel, Connecting LBGTI Refugees and The Broader American LGBT Community, held on October 22. The event was organized by the LGBTI Caucus of the Refugee Congress, and was held at the LGBT Visitor Center on Miami Beach.
Solow gave his legal perspective and insights on what LGBT refugee/asylee clients are facing in today’s immigration courts.
The event was moderated by Sylvia Acevedo, Director of the Florida Center for Survivors of Torture, the only torture-rehabilitation program in the state of Florida. The event seeks to build better bridges between refugee resettlement agencies and local LGBT organizations to ensure that LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers receive appropriate assistance and guidance.
Event sponsors included Church World Service, Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, the International Rescue Committee, and the Refugee Congress.
