FAU Campus - 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton Includes Tailgate Lunch & 60th Birthday Celebration
This year's Pap Corps Walkathon will be truly special. It will include the only corps-wide and public celebration of the charity's 60th year, a great milestone for the largest all-volunteer organization in the United States dedicated solely to funding research on ALL TYPES of cancer.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The $15 entrance fee includes participation in the Walkathon, the Health Fair, and the tailgate barbeque lunch. Former TV Anchor Jim Sackett will once again cheer us on, and there'll be entertainment for all ages: music, games, giveaways, Dolphin football player appearances, photos with Sebastian the Ibis, the University of Miami mascot -- and more!
The Pap Corps has donated over $40 million to cancer research since 1952; more than $29 million in the last ten years alone. These funds provide the seed money for vital research programs at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, South Florida's only university-based cancer center.
"We are really excited about this year's 12th Annual Walkathon," said Rita Seiff, co-chair of the event. We decided it would be a great venue for The Pap Corps' 60th Birthday celebration, since it brings together members of our 55 chapters with residents from the South Florida community. We added the tailgate barbeque lunch to entice people to hang out after the walk and celebrate with us."
"We have raised a tremendous amount of money over these six decades," added co-chair Sheila Alper, "and due to the research we have funded, countless people around the world have been given another chance at life. Cancer touches everyone, and events like the Walkathon demonstrate how, when we work together, we can have a tremendous impact on the lives of those who matter to us.
"We have kept our entrance price at $15 to encourage the public and their families to join us for this fun-filled day."
