ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. - Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach has earned a new distinction - the Continuing Care Retirement Community has become the largest single donor of goods and building materials to the HabiJax ReStore, a unique home improvement retail outlet in Jacksonville.

"We are thrilled to support HabiJax and help them to generate a source of additional funding to build and renovate high-quality, affordable housing for Jacksonville residents," said Fleet Landing Senior Director of Independent Living Services Patricia Mack. "It is very satisfying to know our donations are being repurposed and providing a benefit to others."

For the past six months, Fleet Landing has supported HabiJax by donating a variety of items from the community's homes that are typically discarded during a renovation or remodeling project. Each year, many of the homes and apartments at Fleet Landing are fully refurbished to make available for new resident occupancy. The items typically replaced include appliances, cabinetry, carpeting, bath tubs and sinks, plumbing and electrical fixtures, hardware and ceiling fans. Because Fleet Landing is constantly improving its homes and apartments, the community sends donations to the HabiJax ReStore nearly every week.

"Fleet Landing has been very generous and their donations provide a huge benefit to our organization," said HabiJax ReStore Donations Coordinator Zach Zoul. "The items are top of the line and Fleet Landing's staff has taken great care during the removal process so the items are in good condition for sale at the ReStore."

Operated by HabiJax, Jacksonville's affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the 38,000-square-foot ReStore carries an inventory of new and refurbished building materials and home fixtures which have been donated and are sold to the public at reduced prices. The store, located at 5800 Beach Blvd., is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. More information is available by calling (904) 208-6648 or visit www.habijax.org/restore.
