JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- LandSouth Construction, a Jacksonville-based general contractor specializing in multi-family construction, has been awarded Platinum Level status through the Associated Builders & Contractors Safety Training and Evaluation Program (STEP). Participants in STEP must demonstrate high marks in 20 key safety components, and STEP Platinum recipients must meet a minimum self-score as well as have an incidence rate less than 25 percent below the national average.

The safety components evaluated include employer involvement, safety rules, resources for safety, safety program goal setting, performance review, loss ratio, supervisory training, employee participation, pre-planning for jobsite safety, employer safety training and employer supervisory meetings.

"Our company is extremely safety-conscious, and we are proud to be recognized for our efforts with a Platinum Level award through the STEP program," said James Pyle, president and CEO of LandSouth Construction. "We have both an in-house safety director and a safety committee, and we require all employees to follow best safety practices, as well as our vendors and subcontractors. We believe our clients deserve the safest jobsite and work environment possible."

In addition to having a safety director and safety committee, LandSouth Construction works with a third-party safety inspection company, HRH Health & Safety, that provides detailed inspection reports of all jobsites every two weeks. LandSouth Construction also holds mandatory weekly safety meetings at jobsites for subcontractors and vendors.

LandSouth Construction is currently constructing apartment communities throughout the Southeast, including Bella Apartment Homes in Kissimmee, Fla. and Integra Springs at Kellswater Bridge in North Carolina. Construction is near completion on a fitness center for the Sweetwater Creek Community Development District at Palencia in St Augustine, Fla. and they are working diligently toward starting several new projects in the first quarter of 2011.
